Applications › Configurations › Serial Combinations
Overview
Serial Combinations enables you to select and maintain the components that make up a product serial combination. Use this page when you need to review the selected serial components, refine the list, and save the combination for operational use.
Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse, PM, and Finance users may refer to serial combinations when product identification depends on a defined set of serial components. The page also provides filters to help you locate relevant component selections.
Settings
Before saving a serial combination, identify the components that must be included. The page provides a component selection area and a list of selected items, allowing you to review the combination before committing it.
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Select A Component | Identifies the component to be added to or reviewed in the serial combination. |
| Select... | Provides a selection control for choosing available items. |
| Selected items | Displays the items currently selected for the combination. |
| Filter by user | Narrows the displayed records by user. |
| Filter by field | Narrows the displayed records by a field value. |
| files[] | Holds files associated with the serial combination. |
Note: Review the entries in Selected items before saving. This is the available on-screen confirmation of the components included in the combination.
Workflow
1. Open the Serial Combinations page
Navigate to Configurations > Serial Combinations.
Review the available serial component records. The list may show component-related information such as the serial component, its digits, default value, and count.
2. Find the combination or component you need to work with
When you need to limit the displayed records, use one or both filters before selecting a component:
- Enter or choose a value in Filter by user to limit records associated with a particular user.
- Enter or choose a value in Filter by field to narrow the results by a field value.
- Review the resulting component entries and select the relevant record or item.
Tip: Apply filters only when they help you locate the required component. Clear or change the filter criteria if the expected record is not displayed.
3. Select components for the combination
When you are ready to define or revise a serial combination:
- Select Select A Component.
- Use Select... to choose the required component.
- Review the result in Selected items.
- Repeat the selection process until all required components are listed.
If you need to work with the component-related action, select Component. Use the available component information to confirm that the intended component is included in the selection.
4. Decide whether to save or discard the changes
After reviewing the selected items, choose one of the following outcomes:
- To keep the selected components as the serial combination, select Save.
- To abandon the current changes, select Don't Save.
- If a confirmation message is displayed, select Ok to acknowledge it.
Warning: Select Don't Save only when you intend to discard the current selection changes. Changes are not retained through this choice.
5. Add supporting files or review related information when required
If supporting documentation is needed for the serial combination:
- Select Attach.
- Add the applicable file through files[].
- Select Save after attaching the file if you also made changes to the selected items.
For related follow-up information, use Tickets where applicable. To review the available history information for the record, select logHistory.
Examples
A Warehouse manager needs to maintain a serial combination for a stocked product whose identification requires several serial components.
- The manager opens Configurations > Serial Combinations.
- To reduce the list, the manager enters the relevant value in Filter by field and reviews the component records shown.
- The manager selects Select A Component, then uses Select... to choose the first required component.
- The selected component appears in Selected items.
- The manager repeats Select A Component and Select... until four required items appear in Selected items.
- The manager reviews the list to confirm that the selected items match the intended serial combination.
- The manager selects Save to retain the completed combination.
- If a product specification or supplier document must accompany the combination, the manager selects Attach, adds the file in files[], and selects Save again.
The serial combination is complete when the required components are shown in Selected items and the changes have been saved.
Tips
Tip: Use Filter by user when you need to isolate records associated with a particular user, and use Filter by field when you need to narrow the list by record information.
Note: Treat Selected items as the final review point before selecting Save.
Warning: Do not rely on an unsaved selection. Select Save after adding, removing, or changing components.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The required component is not visible. | A filter may be limiting the displayed records. | Review and adjust Filter by user and Filter by field, then search again. |
| The selected component is not included in the combination. | The component was not confirmed through the selection controls or was not retained. | Use Select A Component and Select... again, verify the entry in Selected items, then select Save. |
| Changes disappear after leaving the page. | The changes were discarded or not saved. | Reopen the serial combination, make the required selections, and select Save rather than Don't Save. |
| Supporting documentation is not associated with the record. | No file was added through the attachment control. | Select Attach, add the required file in files[], and save the record if changes were made. |
