Overview
Product Serial Combination is a PMSettings configuration area for reviewing and maintaining product serial-combination information. Project managers, warehouse users, purchasing officers, and finance users may use this screen when serial-component settings must be checked or supported with related files. Use this page before relying on a product serial combination in PM, Warehouse, purchasing, or job-related operational work.
The screen displays serial-component information, including serial component digits, default values, and a count for the available records.
Settings
Open the configuration screen from Configurations > PMSettings > Product Serial Combination.
Use the visible serial-combination information to identify the record that requires review. The screen shows information relating to serial component digits, default values, and record count.
To maintain supporting documentation for a serial-combination record, use the attachment area represented by files[].
Note: The available screen does not show a separate create action or editable serial-component fields. Review the existing information carefully before using the available actions.
Available actions
| Action | Use |
|---|---|
| Save | Save changes made on the screen, including attached files. |
| Don't Save | Leave the current changes unsaved. |
| Component | Open the available component-related action for the selected serial-combination information. |
| Tickets | Open the available ticket-related action. |
| Attach | Add a file to files[]. |
| Ok | Confirm the current dialog or action when it is displayed. |
Tip: Attach documents that help users identify or validate the serial-component configuration, such as approved specifications or supporting correspondence.
Workflow
1. Review the serial-combination information
- Open Configurations > PMSettings > Product Serial Combination.
- Review the displayed serial-component information, including serial component digits, default values, and the record count.
- Decide whether you only need to review the configuration or need to add supporting documentation.
If no update is required, leave the screen without making changes. If supporting documentation is required, continue with the attachment decision.
2. Decide whether to attach supporting files
- If the serial-combination record requires documentation, select Attach.
- Add the required file to files[].
- Review the attached file before saving the record.
If the file is not correct or should not be retained, do not save the change. Select Don't Save to leave the update unsaved.
Warning: Selecting Don't Save discards the changes currently made on the screen. Save required attachments before leaving the record.
3. Confirm or discard the update
- When the serial-combination information and attachments are correct, select Save.
- If a confirmation dialog is displayed, select Ok to confirm the action.
- If you decide not to retain the change, select Don't Save instead.
After saving, the serial-combination configuration remains available for operational reference.
4. Use related actions when required
- Select Component when you need to use the component-related action available for the serial-combination record.
- Select Tickets when you need to use the ticket-related action available from this screen.
- Confirm any displayed prompt with Ok, where appropriate.
Examples
A project manager is preparing product documentation for a job that uses a configured serial-component setup.
- The project manager opens Configurations > PMSettings > Product Serial Combination.
- They review the displayed serial-component information to confirm that the relevant configuration is present and check the displayed count.
- The project manager decides that an approved serial-component specification should be retained with the configuration.
- They select Attach and add the approved specification to files[].
- They verify that the correct document has been added.
- They select Save to retain the attachment.
- If a confirmation prompt appears, they select Ok.
The serial-combination record now retains the supporting file for future PM and operational reference.
Tips
Tip: Review the displayed count and serial-component information before attaching files. This reduces the risk of adding documentation to the wrong configuration context.
Note: Use Save only after confirming that the attached files are relevant to the product serial combination.
Warning: If you select Don't Save, any unsaved attachment changes are not retained.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A required supporting document is not shown after leaving the screen. | The change was not saved. | Reopen the Product Serial Combination screen, add the file through Attach, and select Save. |
| An incorrect file was added. | The attachment was selected before the record was reviewed. | If the change is still unsaved, select Don't Save and repeat the attachment process with the correct file. |
| A confirmation prompt remains open. | An action requires confirmation. | Review the prompt and select Ok when you intend to confirm the action. |
| You cannot find the required serial-combination information. | The visible configuration information does not match the expected record. | Review the displayed serial component digits, default values, and count before making changes. |
