About profiles

A profile is the page where you view a person's basic information and the articles they authored. Use it when you need to identify an author or review that author's article list.

Before you start

You open a profile for an existing person identified by the username in the profile route. The page uses that username to request the person's profile and authored articles.

Prerequisites

  • Have the person's username, or an article author's username link.
  • Start from an article list when you are using an author link.

The profile body appears after the profile data is available. The article list then shows its loading, empty, or article-preview state according to the returned article data.

Each article entry is a compact preview with the article's identifying information and links.

Find a profile

An article author's username link takes you to that author's profile, so you do not need to construct the profile route yourself.

Prerequisites

  • Have an article preview open with the author's username visible.

Steps

  1. Select the article author's username link in the article metadata.

Result: The profile page is open, and the application requests the profile and the author's articles using the username in the route.

Review the profile and authored articles

The profile header identifies the person, and the article list below it lets you review that person's authored articles.

Prerequisites

  • Have the profile page open.

Steps

  1. Review the profile header. It contains the person's profile image, username, and bio.

  2. Review each article preview. It contains the article title, description, author's username, creation date, tags, and favorite count.

  3. Choose the article list you need from the tabs:

    If you need to…Select
Review articles the person authoredMy Articles
Review articles the person favoritedFavorited Articles
  4. If the list contains more than 10 articles, select the page number for the next group of articles.

  5. To open an article, select Read more... in its article preview.

While the articles are loading, the list displays Loading.... If the person has no articles in the selected list, it displays No articles are here... yet..

The profile page presents profile information and article previews rather than editable profile fields, comments, or full article contents. Use Personalizing your workspace to edit profile information and Read and manage an article to work with an article's full contents.

Result: The selected profile article list is on screen, with its available article previews, loading or empty message, and page controls when the list contains more than 10 articles.
