# Data — Learning Path

_Learning Paths › Data_

This learning path is for business users who work with core organizational data in the Data app. You will learn how to locate and use account, contact, project, and VL registration information, and how to consult shared reference data so that your day-to-day work is based on consistent, connected records.

## Learning objectives

- By the end of this path you can navigate to the appropriate Data app screen for an account, contact, project, VL registration, or reference-data task.
- By the end of this path you can review account and contact information when preparing to work with an organization or person.
- By the end of this path you can use project records to support project-related work.
- By the end of this path you can locate and review VL registration records for registration-related scenarios.
- By the end of this path you can consult the reference list when you need standardized reference information.

## Prerequisites

- Access to the **Data** app.
- Permission to access the records relevant to your responsibilities, including Accounts, Contacts, Projects, VL registrations, and Reference list.
- Familiarity with your organization’s account, contact, project, and registration terminology.

## Module 1: Establish the people and organizations behind your work

**Goal:** Start with the account and contact records that identify the organizations and people involved in business activity.

### Lesson 1.1: Find the organization you need to work with

When you receive a request involving an organization, first locate its account record so you can review the organization’s available data in one place. Open **Accounts**, then locate and open the account relevant to the request. Review the record information available to confirm you are working with the intended organization before continuing with related work.

**Practice task:** Open **Accounts** and locate an account relevant to your work.

### Lesson 1.2: Confirm the right person for a business interaction

When a task concerns a specific individual—such as following up on a request or preparing for a conversation—use the contact records rather than relying only on organization-level information. Open **Contacts**, locate the relevant person, and review the available contact record information to confirm that the record matches the person involved.

**Practice task:** Open **Contacts** and review a contact record associated with a current or recent business scenario.

## Module 2: Support operational work with project and registration data

**Goal:** Use the records that track active work and registrations after you have established the relevant organization and people.

### Lesson 2.1: Review a project before taking project-related action

When you need context for ongoing or planned work, begin with the project record. Open [Projects](doc:projects-guide-3), locate the project related to your task, and review its available information. Use the project record as your central point of reference when preparing for project discussions, checking project-related data, or confirming that you are working on the correct initiative.

**Practice task:** Open [Projects](doc:projects-guide-3) and identify a project you may need to reference this week.

### Lesson 2.2: Check a VL registration for a registration-related request

When someone asks about a VL registration, work from the registration record rather than inferring details from other data. Open [VL registrations](doc:vl-registrations-guide), locate the registration that matches the request, and review the available record information before responding or proceeding with follow-up work.

**Practice task:** Open [VL registrations](doc:vl-registrations-guide) and review one registration record relevant to your responsibilities.

## Module 3: Maintain consistency with shared reference data

**Goal:** Use reference data as a final validation point when your work depends on standard organizational values.

### Lesson 3.1: Consult standardized reference information

When you encounter a value or category that must align with organizational standards, consult the reference data before making a decision in your business process. Open [Reference list](doc:reference-list-guide), locate the relevant reference information, and use what is available there to guide your work consistently.

**Practice task:** Open [Reference list](doc:reference-list-guide) and locate a reference item that is relevant to one of your regular tasks.

### Lesson 3.2: Validate your data source before completing a cross-record task

For tasks that involve an organization, an individual, a project, or a registration, use the record type that directly represents the subject of the task. Start with **Accounts** for organizations, **Contacts** for people, [Projects](doc:projects-guide-3) for project work, and [VL registrations](doc:vl-registrations-guide) for registrations. If standard reference information is needed, validate it in [Reference list](doc:reference-list-guide) before completing your work.

**Practice task:** Choose a real work scenario and identify which Data app screen you would open first and whether you would also consult the reference list.

## Final assessment

1. A colleague asks you to prepare for a discussion with a specific organization. Which screen should you use first, and what should you do there?

2. You need to verify information about a named individual involved in a business request. Which screen is the appropriate starting point?

3. You are asked to gather context for an initiative that is currently being worked on. Which screen should you open, and why?

4. A request is specifically about whether a VL registration record exists and what information it contains. Which screen should you use?

5. You need to ensure that a value or category used in your work follows the organization’s standard reference information. Which screen should you consult?

### Answers

1. ****Accounts**; locate and review the relevant account record.** This is the Data app screen for organization-level information.

2. ****Contacts. A contact record is the appropriate source when the scenario concerns a specific person.

3. **[Projects](doc:projects-guide-3); locate and review the relevant project record.** Project records provide the appropriate context for project-related work.

4. **[VL registrations](doc:vl-registrations-guide).** This screen is the direct source for VL registration records.

5. **[Reference list](doc:reference-list-guide).** The reference list is where you consult standardized reference information for consistent work.
