## Overview

Use the Task screen to access and work with the Task entry area from **Add new** > **My Desk** > **Task**. The screen provides user-name and password entry fields, additional generic entry and selection controls, and actions to save, close, select, attach, or open tickets. Use it when you need to enter the available information and decide whether to save the current entry, continue working, or exit the screen.

The available screen does not display task status values, task descriptions, due dates, assignees, or completion controls. Therefore, this page documents only the controls available on the Task screen.

## Workflow

1. Open **Add new** > **My Desk** > **Task**.

The Task screen opens with the available entry fields and actions. Before proceeding, decide whether you are entering access details, selecting an available item, or preparing information to save.

2. Enter the required identification details.

   - In **Enter User Name**, enter the user name required for the current entry.
   - In **Enter Password **, enter the corresponding password.
   - Use **Enter...** for any additional information requested on the screen.
   - Use **Select...** when you need to choose an available value rather than entering one manually.

   > **Note:** The screen does not provide help text describing the additional **Enter...** or **Select...** controls. Enter or select only information required by your business process.

3. Decide whether to log in or continue preparing the entry.

   - Select **Login** when the entered user name and password are ready for login.
   - If information still needs correction or completion, revise the available fields before using a save or closing action.

   > **Tip:** Review the user name carefully before selecting **Login**, particularly when more than one user may use the same workstation.

4. Decide how to preserve the current work.

   - Select **Save** to save the current entry and remain on the Task screen.
   - Select **Save and Close** to save the current entry and close the screen.
   - Select **Ok** when you need to confirm the current screen action.

The available screen does not show a status field or lifecycle stages. Do not assume that selecting **Save**, **Save and Close**, or **Ok** marks a task as completed, approved, or closed.

5. Use related actions only when they are required for the current item.

   - Select **Select** to use the screen’s available selection action.
   - Select **Tickets** to open the available ticket-related action.
   - Select **Attach** to start the available attachment action.

   > **Warning:** The Task screen does not show attachment details or ticket fields. Confirm that you are working on the correct entry before using **Attach** or **Tickets**.

6. Finish the entry.

When the information is complete, select **Save and Close** to save and exit. If you need to continue entering or reviewing information, select **Save** and remain on the screen.

## Examples

A sales representative needs to access the Task screen before continuing work from My Desk.

1. The sales representative opens **Add new** > **My Desk** > **Task**.

2. In **Enter User Name**, the representative enters `s.reynolds`.

In **Enter Password **, the representative enters the password assigned to that user account. The password value is not displayed in this example.

3. The representative selects **Login**.

4. The representative reviews the remaining available controls. Because no additional information is required, the representative does not use **Enter...**, **Select...**, **Tickets**, or **Attach**.

5. The representative selects **Save and Close** to preserve the current entry and leave the Task screen.

## Tips

> **Tip:** Use **Save** when you need to keep the Task screen open for further review or entry. Use **Save and Close** only when you have finished with the current screen.

> **Note:** The Task screen includes both **Select...** and **Select**. Use the exact control required by the screen: **Select...** is an entry control, while **Select** is an on-screen action.

> **Warning:** Do not treat **Ok** as a task-completion action. No completion status or lifecycle state is displayed on the available screen.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot proceed with login. | The user name or password may be incomplete or incorrect. | Review **Enter User Name** and **Enter Password **, then select **Login** again. |
| You need to choose a value but cannot enter it directly. | The required value may need to be selected through the available selection control. | Use **Select...**, then use **Select** if the screen requires confirmation of the selected item. |
| You saved the entry but remain on the Task screen. | **Save** preserves the entry without closing the screen. | Select **Save and Close** when you want to save the current entry and exit the Task screen. |
| You are unsure whether a task is complete. | The available screen does not show task status or completion fields. | Do not infer completion from the available actions. Use only the documented save, close, ticket, attachment, and selection actions. |
