## Overview

Product Types are the classification records available from **Configurations > Company > Product Types**. They provide a central list of product-type entries, such as complete products, spare parts, and services, for teams working across Sales, PM, Purchasing, Warehouse, Finance, and related operational areas.

Use this page when you need to review the available product-type records, create a new entry, locate an existing entry, or export the current list for review. Maintain product types carefully so that users work from a consistent set of classifications.

## Settings

The Product Types page is itself the available configuration area for these records. It provides a list of existing product types and actions to create, search, filter, update, export, and associate files with the displayed records.

| Control | Use |
|---|---|
| **New** | Starts creation of a new product-type record. |
| **Search** | Searches the Product Types list. |
| **Apply filter** | Applies the selected filter criteria to the list. |
| **Export** | Exports the displayed Product Types data. |
| **icn-update** | Provides the available update action on the page. |
| **icn icn-settings** | Opens the settings action available from the Product Types page. |
| **files[]** | Displays the files area available for the record or page. |
| **Attach** | Opens the available attachment action. |
| **Tickets** | Opens the available tickets action. |
| **Ok** | Confirms the current action or entry. |
| **Cancel** | Cancels the current action without confirming it. |

> **Note:** The available screen does not expose individual product-type fields, status values, or setting options. When creating or updating a record, complete only the fields presented in the resulting interface.

> **Tip:** Review the existing list before creating a record. This helps avoid maintaining multiple product types for the same business classification.

## Workflow

1. Open **Product types** from **Configurations > Company > Product Types**.

Use the list to review the product-type records already available to your company. The screen can contain classifications for different kinds of commercial and operational items, including complete products, spare parts, and services.

2. Decide whether an existing product type already meets the business need.

   - If you need to locate an existing record, enter a suitable term in **Search** and review the matching entries.
   - If you need to narrow the displayed records using the available criteria, select the criteria and choose **Apply filter**.
   - If the required classification is already present, retain the existing record rather than creating a duplicate.
   - If no suitable classification is available, proceed with creating a new product type.

3. Create a product type when a new classification is required.

Select **New**. Enter the information requested in the creation interface that opens. The supplied screen does not identify the individual fields available during entry, so use the labels and required indicators shown on that interface to complete the record accurately.

   At the confirmation decision:

   - Select **Ok** to confirm the new product-type entry.
   - Select **Cancel** if the entry should not be created or requires revision before confirmation.

4. Review and maintain the configured list after creating or changing a record.

Return to the Product Types list and use **Search** or **Apply filter** to verify that the required record is available in the results. Where an update is required, use the available **icn-update** action and complete the information shown by the system.

Do not assume that **icn-update** changes a lifecycle status: no product-type statuses or status transitions are exposed on this screen.

5. Decide whether supporting files or follow-up actions are needed.

When you need to work with files associated with the available record or page, use **Attach** and review the **files[]** area. If the work requires ticket-related follow-up, use **Tickets**.

The screen does not specify the file types, ticket workflow, ownership, or approval process. Follow your company’s established process when using these actions.

6. Export the list when the displayed records need to be reviewed outside the page.

First use **Search** or **Apply filter** to show the set of Product Types you intend to review. Then select **Export**.

Before exporting, confirm that the list reflects the intended scope. Exporting after applying a filter supports focused review, for example when checking whether a particular product-type naming convention is already in use.

> **Warning:** Do not create a new Product Type solely because a search returns no result until you have checked the search text and any active filter. A restrictive filter can hide an existing record.

## Examples

A purchasing officer needs to confirm whether a product type for spare parts is already available before preparing buyouts for a sales job.

1. The purchasing officer opens **Product types** from **Configurations > Company > Product Types**.

2. In **Search**, the officer enters `Spare Parts` and reviews the results.

3. A matching product-type record is present in the list. Because the required classification already exists, the officer does not select **New** and does not create another spare-parts entry.

4. The officer then selects **Export** to obtain the currently displayed Product Types list for internal review with the project or purchasing team.

This process avoids creating an unnecessary duplicate classification and provides a record of the reviewed list. If no appropriate product type had been found after checking the search term and filters, the officer would have selected **New**, completed the fields shown by the system, and selected **Ok** to confirm the new record.

## Tips

> **Tip:** Use clear, consistent names when creating Product Types. Consistent classification names make it easier for Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse, and PM users to find the intended record.

> **Note:** Search and filter serve different purposes. Use **Search** to find a known term; use **Apply filter** when the available filter criteria provide a more suitable way to limit the list.

> **Warning:** Select **Cancel** rather than **Ok** when you are uncertain about the entry. The screen does not show an approval state or review stage for Product Types.

- Use **Export** after narrowing the list, rather than exporting an unreviewed full list.
- Use **Attach** only when supporting files are required by your operational process.
- Use **icn icn-settings** only when you need to access the settings action available from this page; the visible screen does not describe the settings that may be shown.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A Product Type cannot be found in the list. | The search text may not match the record, or an active filter may be limiting the results. | Clear or revise **Search**, review the active criteria, and select **Apply filter** again. |
| You are about to create a Product Type that may already exist. | The existing record has not been checked using the list tools. | Search for similar terms and review the displayed entries before selecting **New**. |
| The displayed list is too broad for review or export. | No search term or filter has been applied. | Use **Search** or select criteria and choose **Apply filter** before selecting **Export**. |
| An entry should not be confirmed. | The information shown in the new or update interface needs correction. | Select **Cancel**, review the required information, and restart or revise the action as appropriate. |
