# Service types

Service types is the warehouse reference list for named external service types.
Use this page to review the list and maintain its entries.
Before you open the list, check the conditions in [Before you start](#before-you-start).

## Before you start

Open the Service types page from the navigation path **Configuration** > **Warehouse settings** >
**Service Types**.
The page uses the warehouse configuration feature, and its list and controls depend on the
configuration available to your account.

| Before you start | What applies |
| --- | --- |
| Access | The list is shown when the configured subscription feature is included. |
| **New** | The control is hidden when the subscription feature is not included or the new-entry control is hidden by configuration. |
| Edit | The row edit control is shown when editing is allowed. |
| Delete | The delete control is shown when deleting is allowed. |
| **Export** | Export access is loaded separately from the page's other action access. |
| **Name** | The field is required when the list configuration marks it as required. |

With these conditions in place, open the list to review its entries and controls.

## Find and review service types

Use this procedure to open the list and check the entries and list controls.

Prerequisites

- You know the navigation path **Configuration** > **Warehouse settings** > **Service Types**.

Steps

1. Open **Configuration** > **Warehouse settings** > **Service Types**.
2. Review the **Name** column.
3. Review the row count.
4. Review the available **New**, **Refresh**, and **Settings** controls.

**Result:** The list shows the **Name** column, one row, `Count: 1`, **New**, **Refresh**, and
**Settings**.
Use this list view to inspect the field and dialog before making a change.

## Understand the service types screen

The list identifies each service type by its **Name**.
The form provides the same **Name** field for a new or edited entry.

| Screen item | What you use it for | Required or visible state |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Name** | Enter the service type name. | Required; appears in the list and form. |

The list uses these settings:

| List setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Paging | Off |
| Row alternation | On |
| Column reordering | On |
| Row filtering | Off |

Selecting **New** opens a dialog titled `New External Service types`.
The dialog displays **Name** with a required marker and an **OK** button.

Use this form when you are ready to add or edit an entry.

## Add or edit a service type

Add or edit a service type when the warehouse reference list needs a new name or a changed name.

Prerequisites

- Have the service type name ready.
- For an edit, have an existing row in the list.

Steps

1. Choose the entry you want to maintain.

   | If you need to… | Do this |
   | --- | --- |
   | Add an entry | Select **New**. |
   | Change an entry | Select the row edit control. |

2. In the form, enter the name in **Name**.
3. Select **OK** to submit the form.
4. Review the list for the updated entry.

**Result:** A new entry displays `Data saved Successfully`.
An edited entry displays `Data updated Successfully`.
The popup closes and the list reloads.

## Remove a service type

Remove an entry when it is no longer needed in the service type reference list.

Prerequisites

- Deleting must be allowed for your account.
- The list must contain more than one item.

Steps

1. Open the row's delete menu.
2. Select **Delete**.
3. Select **Delete** in the confirmation menu.

**Result:** A successful removal displays `Data Deleted Successfully` and the list is reordered.
Use the message table below if the deletion does not complete.

## Validate entries and use list tools

Use the message on screen to correct the action you just took.

| When you see | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `Name is required` | **Name** has no value. | Enter a name in **Name**. |
| `Just '_' '-' And '.' Characters Accepted` | The name contains a character outside the accepted pattern. | Replace the unsupported character. |
| `Forbidden characters detected. Please remove them and try again.` | The list filter contains a forbidden character. | Remove the forbidden character from the filter. |
| `Related to Saved data, Can't be deleted` | The entry is related to saved data. | Keep the entry and review the related saved data. |
| `Failed to Delete` | The deletion did not complete. | Review the entry and try the deletion again when it is allowed. |
| `Must have at least one item` | The list cannot be reduced below one item. | Keep at least one service type in the list. |
| `Data Importing completed` | The import finished. | Review the refreshed list. |

The export dialog provides **Cancel** and **Export**.
Select **Cancel** to close that dialog.
Select **Export** to start the selected export operation.

Prerequisites

- Have a list action that you want to check.

Steps

1. Read the message displayed after the action.
2. Use the action in the matching message row.
3. Apply the correction in the matching message row.

**Result:** You have the correction or follow-up action associated with the displayed message.

## Continue after maintenance

After a successful maintenance action, the list is loaded again and the popup closes.
New entries receive the current list length as their display-order value.
