# Account types

## Account types at a glance

An account type is a name you maintain for classifying accounts in PAMS. Use this page when
the names available for account classification need to be added or removed.

| If you need to… | Go to |
|---|---|
| Find the list and its available tools | [Find the Account types list](#find-the-account-types-list) |
| Add a type name | [Add an account type](#add-an-account-type) |
| Remove a type name | [Remove an account type](#remove-an-account-type) |
| Continue to the records that use account types | [Accounts](doc:accounts) |
| Create an account after its types are available | [Create an account](doc:create-account) |
| Maintain another sales reference list | [Inquiry types](doc:configuration-sales-inquiry-types) |

## Before you start

The Account types page is a reference list in **Configuration** under **General settings**.
The list and its actions appear according to your company's subscription and your access rights.

Before you start, check the following:

| Check | What it controls |
|---|---|
| The required configuration feature is included | The Account types list is available. |
| You have permission to add or delete | The corresponding action appears. |
| Your list has loaded | The columns and rows available to you are visible. |

The list headers come from your saved configuration, so use the headers that appear on your
screen. No saved account record is required before you open the list.

## Find the Account types list

Open the reference list and identify the tools available on your screen.

Prerequisites

- The Account types configuration is available to you.

Steps

1. Select **Configuration** in the main menu.
2. Select **General settings**.
3. Select **Account types**.
4. Confirm that the page heading reads **Account types**.
5. Read the headers shown in the list.
6. Locate **New** in the page header.
7. Locate the icon with the title **Refresh**.

**Result:** The Account types list is open. The list shows a **Name** column and the page tools
that your access allows.

## Understand the list and form

The list displays account-type names. The form uses one field for the name, while the identifier
and company fields are not part of the form you maintain.

| Area | What you use it for | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| List | Review the account-type names | The headers shown depend on your configuration. |
| New form | Enter the account-type name | **Name** is required in the page settings. |
| Identifier and company data | Support the record behind the list | These fields are hidden and not editable here. |

The **Name** field appears after you open the new form. It appears when the selected item
exists and the configured field is visible in the form.

The page opens with the list rather than an open form. Use the list headers and the **Name** field
in the form as two separate views of the same reference data.

## Add an account type

Maintain an account type by adding a new name.

Prerequisites

- You have permission to add an account type.
- You have the account-type name you want to maintain.

Steps

1. Select **New**.

2. In the form, enter the account-type name in **Name**.
3. Choose how to finish the form:

   | If you need to… | Select | Result |
   |---|---|---|
   | Save the new name | **OK** | The form submits the change. |
   | Leave the name unchanged | **Cancel** | The form closes without saving. |

**Result:** A successful new entry displays `Data saved Successfully`, and the list refreshes.

## Remove an account type

Remove a name that is no longer needed.

Prerequisites

- You have permission to delete the row.
- You have identified the row from its **Name** value.

Steps

1. Choose the deletion outcome that matches your task:

   | If you need to… | Steps and result |
   |---|---|
   | Remove the row | Select the available **Delete** control for the identified row. |

2. Read `Are you sure you want to delete this item?`.
3. Choose the outcome after the confirmation prompt:

   | If you need to… | Select | Result |
   |---|---|---|
   | Keep the row | **Cancel** | The row remains in the list. |
   | Remove the row | **Delete** | A successful deletion displays `Data Deleted Successfully`. If it is the last item, the page displays `Must have at least one item`. |

**Result:** The row remains unchanged after you select **Cancel**, or the deletion outcome appears.

## When maintenance does not work

Use the message you see to choose the corrective action rather than repeating the same action.

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| `Forbidden characters detected. Please remove them and try again.` | Remove the forbidden characters from the list filter text and apply the filter again. |
| `Related to Saved data, Can't be deleted` | Keep the row and review the saved data that refers to it. |
| `Failed to Delete` | Keep the row and retry the deletion after checking that the row is available for deletion. |
| `Must have at least one item` | Keep the remaining item; the list cannot be empty. |

## After maintaining account types

After a successful maintenance action, continue using the refreshed list or move to the account
records that use the classification.

| Result on screen | Next action |
|---|---|
| `Data saved Successfully` | Continue working with the refreshed Account types list. |
| `Data updated Successfully` | Review the updated name in the list. |
| `Data Deleted Successfully` | Continue with the remaining names in the list. |
| `Must have at least one item` | Keep the remaining account type and leave the list populated. |

Account records use the account-type classification. Continue with [Accounts](doc:accounts) to
work with those records, or use [Create an account](doc:create-account) to add one.
