# Manage demo data

## Manage demo data

Demo company data gives you records to explore PAMS functions before you use your own data.
Use this page to import the demo data, refresh dates in already imported data, or remove the demo
data while keeping private data added during your work.

The page offers **Import demo data** before demo data is imported. After import, it offers
**Refresh demo data** and **Delete demo data**.

## Before you start

Choose an operation on the **Manage demo data** page after you open it.

Prerequisites

- Know whether demo data is already imported so you can choose the action shown for that state.

The page starts with the import state when demo data is not imported. In that state, the import
description and **Import demo data** are shown. In the imported state, the refresh and deletion
descriptions and their controls are shown.

## Find the page

Open the page from the Configuration area to reach the demo-data actions.

Steps

1. Open the **Configuration** area.
2. Select **Manage demo data**.

**Result:** The Manage demo data page opens. In the initial state, **Manage demo data**,
**Configuration**, and **Import demo data** are visible; **Refresh demo data** and **Delete demo
data** are not shown.

## Understand the screen

The Manage demo data screen is a state-based action page: its descriptions and controls change
when demo data is imported or removed.

The page is an action page rather than a data-entry list: there are no fields to fill in and no
table of records to review.
The import modal includes a file-upload surface for its import option, with **Upload** available
when importing is not disabled.

## Import demo data

Select **Import demo data** when it is available to add demo company data for exploring PAMS
functions without changing your private data.

Prerequisites

- The page shows **Import demo data**.

Steps

1. Select **Import demo data**.
2. Keep the browser window open while the import runs.

   The import modal displays `Start importing demo company data…` and `Importing the demo company data will take a few minutes. Please do not close this browser window until the import process is complete.`

   It also displays `Ending the import process before it is finished may result in corrupt data being entered.`

3. When `Importing demo company data completed.` appears, select **Close**.

**Result:** The page is in the imported state and offers **Refresh demo data** and
**Delete demo data**.

## Refresh or delete imported demo data

Imported demo data can either receive updated dates or be removed from the page while real private
data remains.

> **Warning:** Deleting demo company data removes all demo data and related records. It does not
> affect real private data added during experimentation.

Prerequisites

- The page is in the imported state.

Steps

1. Select the operation that matches your goal, then follow the corresponding action sequence:

   | Refresh dates in imported demo data | Select **Refresh demo data**. Continue using the imported demo data when `Demo company data refreshed successfully` appears. |
   | Remove imported demo data and keep it | Select **Delete demo data**. Read `Deleting demo company data?`, the warning `Deleting demo company data (and all its related records) will not affect your real private data that was added during the experimentation.`, and `Important: Importing the demo company data will take a few minutes.` Select **Keep**. |
   | Remove imported demo data | Select **Delete demo data**. Read `Deleting demo company data?`, the warning `Deleting demo company data (and all its related records) will not affect your real private data that was added during the experimentation.`, and `Important: Importing the demo company data will take a few minutes.` Select **Delete**. Keep the browser window open while deletion runs. When `Demo company data deleted successfully` appears, select **Close**. |

   The deletion modal displays `Deleting the demo company data will take a few minutes. Please do not close this browser window until the deleting process is complete.` and `Ending the deleting process before it is finished may result in corrupt data being entered.`

**Result:** Refresh leaves the imported demo data available with updated dates. Keeping the data
closes the confirmation modal. Completing deletion returns the page to its not-imported state.

## When an operation goes wrong

The import, refresh, and deletion actions use the same common error response when their request
fails.

## After managing demo data

After a successful import, the page shows the imported state with **Refresh demo data** and
**Delete demo data**. After successful deletion, it shows the not-imported state with
**Import demo data**. The page also states that demo company data can be managed again from
Settings through **Demo Data Settings**.
