# Product types

Use this page to find, review, and maintain the product-type reference entries in company
configuration. A product type is a reference entry maintained for the company.

## Product types

Open the **Product types** list from the company configuration menu.

| If you need to… | Go to |
|---|---|
| Open the reference list | [Find a product type](#find-a-product-type) |
| Read the list and its available data | [Understand the product-type list](#understand-the-product-type-list) |
| Add, change, delete, or export entries | [Add, change, delete, and export product types](#add-change-delete-and-export-product-types) |
| Respond to an unavailable action or empty save | [When an action is unavailable](#when-an-action-is-unavailable) |
| Match a message to the action that produced it | [When something goes wrong](#when-something-goes-wrong) |
| Continue with product records | [Products](products.md) |

The list opens in the company configuration view and loads its entries when the page initializes.

## Before you start

Sign in to PAMS before opening the configuration route. The actions available on the list depend
on your permissions.

| Permission or condition | Action it controls |
|---|---|
| New permission | **New** is available. |
| Edit permission | The row edit action and value-click editing are available. |
| Delete permission | The row delete action is available. |
| Editable product-type column | Clicking a value opens the edit popup; the identifier column does not. |

With access in place, find the list and search for an entry.

## Find a product type

Use the product-type list to locate an existing entry by its name.

Prerequisites

- You are signed in to PAMS.
- You have opened the Product types list.

Steps

1. In the list toolbar, enter a search term in **Keyword to Search...**.
2. Review the filtered product-type rows.
3. Clear **Keyword to Search...** when you want to return to the main list.

**Result:** The list shows the rows matching the search term, or the main list after the search is
cleared.

After you locate an entry, read the list layout before maintaining it.

## Understand the product-type list

The list lets you identify product types by name and select an entry for editing or deletion. It
does not display column headings.

| Area | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Name column | The visible product-type name. |
| Identifier column | A hidden product-type identifier used by the list. |
| Row controls | Select a product-type name to edit it, or use the available delete option. |
| Search area | **Keyword to Search...** in the list toolbar. |
| Headings | None are displayed above the list columns. |
| Import | No import action is available on this product-type list. |

The popup contains **Type** and a hidden, disabled identifier. The active form does not show a
required marker. Saving still requires a non-empty name.

When you know which entry to maintain, use the maintenance procedures.

## Add, change, delete, and export product types

Use these procedures when you need to maintain the reference entries or prepare a list export.

### Add a product type

Add a new named reference entry when the product type does not already appear in the list.

- You have the product-type name ready.

Steps

1. Select **New**.
2. In the popup, enter the product-type name in **Type**.
3. Select **Save**.

**Result:** The new entry is saved, the list refreshes, and the message `Data saved Successfully`
appears.

### Change a product type

Change the name of an existing entry from its editable product-type value or row edit action.

Prerequisites

- You have edit permission.
- The product-type row is present in the list.

Steps

1. Select the product-type name in the row to open the edit popup.
2. Replace the value in **Type**.
3. Select **Save**.

**Result:** The edited name is saved and the list refreshes with the changed value.

### Delete a product type

Delete an entry when it is no longer needed in the reference list.

Prerequisites

- You have delete permission.
- The product-type row is present in the list.

Steps

1. Open the row delete menu.
2. Read the confirmation message `Are you sure you want to delete this item?`.
3. Select **Delete** to confirm the removal.

**Result:** The row is removed, the list refreshes, and the message `Data Deleted Successfully`
appears.

### Export the product-type list

Open the export choices when you need a file representation of the list.

Steps

1. Select **Export**.

**Result:** The available export options are displayed; if an action is unavailable, use the
permission and input guidance in the next section.

## When an action is unavailable

The list shows maintenance actions according to the permissions returned for your account.

| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| **New** is unavailable | Ask an administrator for permission to create product types. |
| The edit action is unavailable | Ask an administrator for edit permission. |
| The delete action is unavailable | Ask an administrator for delete permission. |
| **Save** is selected with an empty **Type** | Enter a product-type name, then select **Save**. The message `Can't save empty items` appears. |
| A save or delete request returns an error | Follow the displayed message. The page can display the request's returned error text. |

If an action produces a message, use the matching guidance in the next section.

## When something goes wrong

Use the message on screen to choose the next action.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| `Are you sure you want to delete this item?` | The delete menu is asking you to confirm the row removal. | Select **Delete** to remove the row, or **Cancel** to close the menu. |
| `Data saved Successfully` | The save request completed. | Review the refreshed list. |
| `Data Deleted Successfully` | The delete request completed. | Review the refreshed list. |
| `Can't save empty items` | **Save** was selected without a product-type name. | Enter a value in **Type**, then select **Save**. |
| `Error: Please Refresh the Page and Try Again.` | The page returned its request-error fallback. | Refresh the page and try the action again. |

After correcting the issue, return to the relevant maintenance procedure.

## After managing product types

After a successful save or delete, the list refreshes. Continue to [Products](products.md) when you
need to use product-type reference data in product records.
