# Attachment categories

## Attachment categories

An attachment category is a named entry in the Attachment categories list. Use
**Attachment categories** to maintain these entries under **Attachment**.

## Before you start

Open **Attachment categories** from the configuration area. The attachment subscription
condition determines whether the list or the upgrade surface appears.

**Prerequisites**

- Sign in to PAMS.
- Use a subscription that includes attachments.
- Have permission for the action you want to use.
- Have the category name you want to enter or change.

The columns and available actions can vary with your configuration. Work from the controls and
columns visible on your screen.

## Find the attachment categories list

Open the list before choosing a category-maintenance action.

**Prerequisites**

- You are signed in.

**Steps**

1. Open **Attachment categories**.
2. Confirm that **Name** is the list column.
3. Confirm that **New**, **Refresh**, and **Settings** are visible.

**Result:** The Attachment categories list is open with the **Name** column and its rows.

## Understand the list and form

The category form uses **Name** for the entry name. The new-entry form shows **Name** as a text
box with a required marker and uses **OK** as its commit button.

## Add, review, and remove a category

Use the branch that matches the maintenance action you need.

**Prerequisites**

- The Attachment categories list is open.
- You have permission for the action you intend to use.
- You have the category name to enter or change.

### Create a category

**Steps**

1. Select **New**.
2. Enter the category name in **Name**.
3. Select **OK** to commit the form.

**Result:** The new-entry surface is titled `New Attachment categories`. The available success
message is `Data saved Successfully`.

### Review a category

**Steps**

1. Select the row's edit control.
2. Review the value in **Name**.

**Result:** The existing category is open for review.

### Change a category

**Steps**

1. Select the row's edit control.
2. Enter the changed value in **Name**.
3. Select **OK** to commit the change.

**Result:** The available update message is `Data updated Successfully`.

### Delete a category

**Steps**

1. Select the row delete control beside the row.
2. Choose the action that matches your decision.

   | Keep the row | **Cancel** |
   | Confirm removal | **Delete** |

**Result:** The row remains when you select **Cancel**. A successful removal uses
`Data Deleted Successfully`.

### Export the list

**Steps**

1. Select **Export**.

**Result:** The export choices open.

## Handle surface variations

The list and its available actions depend on subscription and permission settings.

**Prerequisites**

- The configuration area is open.

**Steps**

1. Choose the visible surface that matches your setup.

| If you see… | Do this |
|---|---|
| The configuration grid | Continue with the list action you need. |
| The subscription-upgrade surface | Use a subscription that includes attachments. |
| **New** | Open the new-entry form. |
| The row's edit control | Open that row for review or change. |
| The row delete control | Open the row's delete menu. |
| **Refresh** and **Settings** | Use the controls currently visible on the list. |

**Result:** The surface matching your subscription, permissions, and visible list controls is
open for the next action.

## When maintenance does not work

Use the message text to choose the next action.

**Prerequisites**

- A maintenance message is displayed.

**Steps**

1. Follow the instruction in the displayed message.

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| `Are you sure you want to delete this item?` | Select **Cancel** to keep the row, or **Delete** to confirm removal. |
| `Related to Saved data, Can't be deleted` | Follow the displayed message. |
| `Failed to Delete` | Follow the displayed message. |
| `Must have at least one item` | Follow the displayed message. |
| `Forbidden characters detected. Please remove them and try again.` | Follow the displayed message. |
| A message after saving | Follow the displayed message. |

**Result:** You have the action indicated by the message and can continue with the applicable
maintenance branch.
