## Users & Permissions overview

The Users & Permissions page is the place to start when you need administrative
access information. It currently presents a placeholder for user management and
directs membership work to organization settings.

The page identifies the area with the subtitle `Manage users, roles, and access control`.
Its status message is `Coming soon`. The page also states:
`User management functionality is currently under development. This page will allow you to manage users, assign roles, and control access permissions.`

The Admin Dashboard is the administrative hub for these entry points.
When no signed-in user name is available, the Admin Dashboard uses the subtitle
`Central hub for system administration and management`.

## Before you start

Before opening this surface, decide whether you need orientation or membership
management. Use Users & Permissions for orientation. Use [Organization overview](doc:organization-overview)
for membership management.

The page displays this guidance:
`Until then, manage membership from your organization settings.`

## Reach Users & Permissions

Use this procedure when you need to open the Users & Permissions page from the
administrative hub.

**Prerequisites**

- You are on the Admin Dashboard.

**Steps**

1. Choose the entry point that matches where you are working.

   | If you are… | Select |
   |---|---|
   | In the administrative list | **Users & Permissions** |
   | Using the quick actions | **Add New User** |

2. On the Users & Permissions page, confirm that the heading is **Users & Permissions**.

The page displays `Coming soon` and the message `Until then, manage membership from your organization settings.`

**Result:** The Users & Permissions page is open.

## Understand the current surface

The current surface is a status page rather than an editable user list. It shows
the **Users & Permissions** heading, the subtitle `Manage users, roles, and access control`,
and the status message `Coming soon`.

| What you see | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| `User management functionality is currently under development. This page will allow you to manage users, assign roles, and control access permissions.` | User management is presented as a future function of this page. |
| **Search⌘K** | Opens the command palette. |
| **Switch to dark mode** | Changes the display mode. |
| **Sign out** | Ends the current session. |

The page does not present an editable user list, role selector, permission
selector, save control, labelled form field, or grid. The next page for user-management
work is [Manage users](doc:manage-users). The organization-settings destination is
[Organization overview](doc:organization-overview).
