## Before you start

Prerequisites

- You are signed in to the application.
- If you are using a small viewport, you have access to the mobile menu.
- If you need the platform administration destination, you have platform administrator access.

The available navigation depends on your access and display size. On a small viewport, the sidebar is
replaced by Menu. The Platform section appears only for a platform administrator.

**Steps**

1. Check whether the navigation is displayed as a sidebar or behind Menu.
2. If you need platform administration, check whether **Organizations** is available.

**Result:** You know which navigation controls are available before selecting a destination.

## Find a destination

Navigation groups destinations by the work area they open. Use the question you are answering to choose
the destination rather than searching by route text.

Prerequisites

- You know which work area you need to open.

**Steps**

1. In the navigation, locate the destination that matches your work.

   | If you need to… | Select |
   |---|---|
   | Open the workspace home | **Dashboard** |
   | Work with projects | **Projects** |
   | Work with documents | **Documents** |
   | Review operational work | **Operations** |
   | Review measurements | **Analytics** |
   | Review images | **Screenshots** |
   | Review narrated walkthroughs | **Videos** |
   | Review recorded walkthrough steps | **Captured Flows** |
   | Work with support conversations | Support Agent |
   | Work from the support inbox | **Desk** |
   | Review reported problems | **Issues** |
   | Manage organization information | **Organization** |
   | Manage workspace appearance | **Branding** |
   | Manage connected services | **Integrations** |
   | Manage the subscription | **Billing** |
   | Manage organizations as a platform administrator | **Organizations** |

2. Check the destination description associated with your selection when you need to distinguish between
   similar work areas.

    | Select | Opens |
   |---|---|
    | **Dashboard** | Workspace home |
    | **Projects** | Project workspace |
    | **Documents** | Document workspace |
    | **Operations** | Operational work |
    | **Analytics** | Measurements and reports |
    | **Screenshots** | Screenshot gallery |
    | **Videos** | Video walkthroughs |
    | **Captured Flows** | Recorded walkthrough steps |
    | Support Agent | Support conversations |
    | **Desk** | Support inbox |
    | **Issues** | Reported problems |
    | **Organization** | Organization information |
    | **Branding** | Workspace appearance |
    | **Integrations** | Connected services |
    | **Billing** | Subscription management |
    | **Organizations** | Platform administration |

**Result:** You have identified the destination and what it opens.

## Understand the navigation screen

The navigation screen is the set of work-area links around the workspace surface. The desktop sidebar
contains navigation sections, and its links use the destination labels shown in the tables above.

The active destination follows your current location. **Dashboard** is active only on the workspace home.
When you work deeper in a destination, that destination remains active.

On the workspace home, the visible workspace grid uses **Project**, Docs, **Categories**, and
**Updated** as its column headers.

The workspace home rendered 13 buttons and four grid columns. Its stable product controls included
**Search⌘K**, **Sign out**, **Get Started →**, **GitLab**, **Bitbucket**, and
**Create without a repository**. Its icon controls included **Switch to dark mode** and
**Notifications**.

The mobile navigation uses the same destination list in a drawer. Select Menu to open the drawer,
then select Close sidebar to close it.

## Move between destinations

Use this procedure when you need to change work areas from the application navigation.

Prerequisites

- You are signed in.
- You know the destination you want to open.

**Steps**

1. In the navigation, select **Projects**, or select another destination control from the destination table.
2. Check the workspace heading against the destination you selected.
3. Select another destination when you need to change work areas.

**Result:** The selected destination is open, and the navigation identifies the current work area from
the route.

## Use conditional navigation

Some navigation choices depend on how you access the application or on your platform permissions.

Prerequisites

- You are signed in.

**Steps**

1. Choose the applicable route:

   | If… | Select |
   |---|---|
   | You are using a small viewport | Menu |
   | You are a platform administrator and need platform administration | **Organizations** |

2. If the mobile sidebar is open, select Close sidebar.

**Result:** You use the available navigation for your viewport and access level.

## When navigation cannot be reached

If a navigation action does not reach its destination, check whether sign-in has completed.

| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The sign-in screen remains open | Navigation is unavailable until sign-in completes. | Complete sign-in before selecting a work area. |
| The destination is not in the navigation | The available navigation does not include that destination for your access or display condition. | Review the conditional choices in this section. |

## Continue from the destination

After you open a destination, use the matching overview page for the work you want to perform.

| Destination | Continue with |
