# Issues overview

## What Issues is for

Issues is the recovery and exception destination for work that needs attention after the primary
work is complete. Use it to review reported issues, see their current status, and choose between
the full issue list and the board view.

| If you need to… | Go to |
|---|---|
| See the issue statistics and move to another Issues view | The Issues destination |
| Search, filter, group, or update issues in a list | [Review and filter issues](#review-and-filter-issues) |
| See issues arranged on boards | [Open an Issues view](#open-an-issues-view), then **Boards** |
| Open and work with one issue | [Work with an issue](doc:work-with-an-issue) |
| Set up or maintain a board | [Manage issue boards](doc:manage-issue-boards) |
| Understand statuses and recovery | [Issue states and recovery](doc:issue-states-and-recovery) |

Before you select a view, make sure the required project context is in place.

## Before you start

The Issues pages work in the context of a selected project. Select a project before you review
statistics, search the issue list, or view boards. If no project is selected, the page presents
the message `No project selected` and the instruction `Pick a project from the switcher to see its reported issues.`

The list and board views use the same project context. This keeps the issues and boards you review
together instead of mixing information from different projects.

With a project selected, continue to the Issues destination and choose the view that matches your
work.

## Open an Issues view

The Issues destination provides the starting point for the two working views: All Issues and
Boards.

**Prerequisites**

- You have a project selected.
- You are on the Issues destination.

**Steps**

1. Select one of these controls:

   | If you need to… | Select |
   |---|---|
   | Review issues in a searchable list | **All issues** |
   | See issues arranged by board columns | **Boards** |

2. On either view, select **All Issues** or **Boards** in the Issues view tabs to switch views.

**Result:** The selected Issues view is on screen.

## Understand the Issues views

The Issues destination is the summary view for the selected project. It combines an issue summary
with links to the two working views. **All Issues** is the searchable list; **Boards** presents
issues through board views.

The summary offers these time-range choices:

| Control | What it changes |
|---|---|
| **7d** | The statistics period covers 7 days. |
| **30d** | The statistics period covers 30 days. |
| **90d** | The statistics period covers 90 days. |

Select **Refresh** to reload the statistics and issue data. Select **View all** in the recent
reports area to open the full issue list.

The All Issues view includes the list controls and the issue table. Its filters are **Category**,
**Type**, **Priority**, **Sort**, and **Group**. It also includes **Row density**, the **Search
issues…** field, and **Per page** when pagination is shown. The list can also show the status
choices **All**, **Open**, **In Progress**, **Resolved**, and **Closed**.

The Boards view includes the board cards and a status filter for issues held on boards. Select
**New board** to open the board-creation dialog, or select **Board options** on a board card to
open **Edit board**, **Duplicate**, or **Delete board**. Board setup and maintenance are covered
in [Manage issue boards](doc:manage-issue-boards).

Use the All Issues list when you need to locate or organize a report.

## Review and filter issues

Use All Issues when you need to locate a report, narrow the list, or organize the visible results.

**Prerequisites**

- You have a project selected.
- You have opened All Issues.

**Steps**

1. Select **All Issues** in the Issues view tabs if another Issues view is open.
2. Choose the filter or list arrangement that matches your question:

   | If you need to… | Use |
   |---|---|
   | Narrow results by classification | **Category**, **Type**, or `Priority` |
   | Change the order of results | **Sort** |
   | Arrange results into groups | **Group** |
   | Change the amount of row detail shown | **Row density** |

3. Enter a term in **Search issues…** to search the visible issue data.
4. Select a status in the status filter: **All**, **Open**, **In Progress**, **Resolved**, or
   **Closed**.
5. If active filters appear, select **Clear all** to remove the filters and search value.
6. If the results span more than one page, choose a value in **Per page** and use the pagination
controls to move through the results.
7. If you select one or more issues, choose **Mark In Progress**, **Resolve**, or **Close** to
apply that status to the selected issues.

**Result:** All Issues shows the list narrowed or organized according to your selected filters,
search, grouping, density, and page settings.

If the list has no records, it shows `No issues yet`. If your selected filters return no records, it
shows `No issues match your filters`.

## Choose what to do next

After you choose an Issues view, continue with the task that matches what you need to accomplish.

**Steps**

1. Select the next destination:

   | If you need to… | Select or open |
   |---|---|
   | Inspect or update one issue | [Work with an issue](doc:work-with-an-issue) |
   | Create, edit, duplicate, delete, or organize a board | [Manage issue boards](doc:manage-issue-boards) |
   | Learn what an issue status means or how recovery works | [Issue states and recovery](doc:issue-states-and-recovery) |

2. Select the control that matches your current view:

   | If you are on… | Select |
   |---|---|
   | All Issues | **Boards** to move to board work, or **Back to Statistics** to return to the Issues summary |
   | Boards | **Back to Statistics** to return to the Issues summary |

**Result:** You are on the Issues page that matches the work you need to do next.

When board actions produce a message, the product uses these messages:

| Situation | Message |
|---|---|
| A board is created | `Board created` |
| A board is duplicated | `Board duplicated` |
| Board settings are saved | `Board updated` |
| A board is restored | `Board restored` |
| A deleted board can be restored | `Undo` |
| Board creation cannot be completed | `Could not create the board. Try again.` |
| Board deletion cannot be completed | `Could not delete the board.` |
| Board settings cannot be saved | `Could not save` |

If the Boards view has no boards, it shows `No boards yet`. If the selected status has no matching
boards, it shows `Nothing matches`.
