# Configure Authentication Access

Authentication helps protect your Atloria organization, projects, and team access by requiring users to identify themselves before they can continue. This page explains how to open the Authentication area and complete the available authorization and OAuth 2.0 setup actions.

## Overview

Use Authentication when you need to connect Atloria to an approved identity or authorization flow. Authentication access is especially important before sharing project information with team members, connecting external services, or allowing users to work across projects.

In Atloria, authentication-related options are grouped under **Authentication**. From this area, you can review the **Authentication Guide**, open **OAuth 2.0 Setup**, and use authorization actions such as **Authorize Atloria** or **Authorize Bitbucket** when those connections are required.

Authentication works alongside project and team workflows. After access is configured, you can return to **Projects**, use **Share with Team**, and manage the work that your authorized users can access. If a project or service is not authorized, Atloria may prompt you to complete an authorization action before you can continue.

## Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure that you have:

- Access to the Atloria organization or project you want to protect.
- Permission to configure access for the organization or project.
- The sign-in details required by your organization’s identity provider, if applicable.
- Approval to authorize any external service, such as Bitbucket.
- The correct project selected if you are configuring access for a specific project.
- The details your organization requires for an OAuth 2.0 connection.

## Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open the Atloria workspace that contains the organization or project you want to protect.

2. Select **Authentication** to open the authentication options.

3. Select **Authentication Guide** to review the available authentication instructions before making changes.

4. Select **OAuth 2.0 Setup** if you need to configure OAuth 2.0 access.

5. Enter the OAuth 2.0 details requested on the setup screen.

6. Select **Configure →** to save or continue the OAuth 2.0 configuration.

7. Select **Authorize Atloria** when Atloria asks you to approve its authorization request.

8. Complete the authorization prompts shown by your sign-in provider.

9. Select **Authorize Bitbucket** if your project requires access to Bitbucket.

10. Complete the Bitbucket authorization prompts shown in the authorization window.

11. Select **← Authentication** to return to the Authentication area after completing an authorization action.

12. Select **Projects** or **← Back to Projects** to return to your project list.

13. Open the project you want to work with after authentication is configured.

14. Select **Share with Team** when you are ready to provide authorized team members with access to the project.

## Tips and Best Practices

- Review **Authentication Guide** before selecting an authorization option. This helps you choose the correct setup path for your organization or project.

- Configure OAuth 2.0 before inviting or sharing work with a larger team when your organization relies on OAuth-based access. Doing so helps ensure that users are authenticated consistently.

- Use **Authorize Atloria** only when you are ready to approve Atloria’s access request. Complete the prompts in the authorization window rather than closing the window early.

- Use **Authorize Bitbucket** only for projects that need a Bitbucket connection. This keeps external access limited to the services your team actually uses.

- After completing setup, return to **Projects** and confirm that you can open the relevant project. If you cannot continue into a project, review the Authentication area again and check whether an authorization step is still required.

- When sharing a project, use **Share with Team** only after the necessary authentication setup is complete. This reduces the chance that team members receive access instructions before they can sign in successfully.

## Troubleshooting

### You cannot find the authorization options

Select **Authentication** from your Atloria workspace. If you are working inside a project, use **← Authentication** to return to the Authentication area. If the option is still unavailable, confirm that you have permission to configure organization or project access.

### Authorization does not complete

Select **Authorize Atloria** or **Authorize Bitbucket** again, then complete every prompt shown by the authorization provider. Make sure you are signed in with the account that has permission to approve access for the required organization or service.

### You configured access but cannot open a project

Select **Projects** or **← Back to Projects**, then open the project again. If access is still blocked, return to **Authentication**, review **Authentication Guide**, and verify that the required OAuth 2.0 or service authorization step was completed.
